Manitowoc model #RMS0385A purchased 5/20/2015, It has starting making loud noises (like a garbage disposal)
We have changed the filter but it continues. Any suggestions on what we should do to prevent this from happening.
I think your actual model is RNS0385A. A nugget (flake) machine.
So, you bought it 5/20/2015? Okay then. Almost three years ago.
From your description of it "making loud noises like a garbage disposal", it sounds like the machine is HORRIBLY overdue for its FIRST cleaning...and second...and all the rest. All the cleanings that were due once every six months. SEVEN cleanings to date.
I could be wrong, though. When was the last time you cleaned it?
Worst case scenario: The auger is scraping the evaporator wall, therefore SCORING it with grooves. Metal to metal.
Not cleaning it.
So, after NOT cleaning the machine, limescale built up and, acting as sand in there along with thewater and ice, established an impermeable material to restrict the auger from rotating properly. Some of that "sand" worked its way down to the bottom seal...thus compromising IT. With the seal leaking, water migrated into the lower bearing...causing IT to get rusty.
That's my on-line diagnosis - based upon your description.
Hopefully I will be proven wrong after you have an authorized service company look at it:

Meanwhile, I highly recommend that you shut it off until it's looked at. After all, you don't want metal shaving in the ice people are putting in their drinks.
I almost forgot. Here's the manual on your ice machine:
It sounds like you have extensive damage to the drive and auger. Usually from a lower seal leak that has corroded the bearings and possibly allowed water into the gear box. The water then displaces the oil and corrodes the gears and other bearings. This repair will require a certified refrigeration tech to accomplish and may approach more than 50% the cost of a new head.
I should also clarify that the cleaning Ectofix is referring to is a water side cleaning as well as air cooling side. It also requires sanitation after cleaning. Commonly forgotten with all ice machines. But especially with shavers.
