we have a True TUC-60D-4 serial # 1-3959998. The unit is running, coil is clean and fan is running but it doesn't seem to want to cool or even reach temp. This has just happen over night. Any suggestion
Is ur compressor running? Is the condenser fan running? Put ur hand on compressor is it extremely hot?
With out putting gauges on it’s pretty hard to tell if u need freon.
Actually before tapping into a sealed system, One should rule out as many possibilities as possible and be certain it is necessary. . This can easily be accomplished with a amp-meter, flashlight, and touch..
Place the meter on the condenser line, Note amperage over time. Should be steady and just below full load amps. If amps are lower than 40% FLA, there is no load. If amps cycling very high, the compressor is not starting or tripping on overload. High amps will indicate this. If high, check condenser to be clean and have air movement. If condenser is ok, Ohm out the winding's and test the run capacitor and start components.
Check condenser top and bottom lines for heat. Careful on the top one. It should be hot. Bottom should be near room temp but warmer. Is the condenser fan intact and running up to speed.
Feel the dryer cap tube. should be near the lower condenser line or slightly cooler. If very cold, You will need to tap in. Check charge.
Feel the suction line. cool or cold, compressor is cooling. Freezing, no air movement over evaporator. Warm, metering, low refrigerant, or solenoid.
Now go inside and look at the evaporator coils. Are they clear or iced up? Is/are the fan/fans moving air? use the back of your hand to feel flow.
