What's your "point"?
Are you talking about the ceramic tiles with a bunch of nubs on them? They look something like this?
Those tiles get installed with the nubby-side facing down and set upon flats on the cast-iron burners inside the broiler so they bridge the burners:

Look on page 8. The picture is how they'd look if you lifted off the griddle-top and looked down at the tiles. Kim, p-l-e-a-s-e don't try to lift the gribble-top yourself. It shouldn't be necessary. I think you can install the tiles from underneath.
Once you get the tiles installed and light the broiler, the ceramics will glow red and look like this:
