Looking for part that is no longer manufactured. Southbend stove model 323 serial # 712 2112 and part # 1168262
From MOST technician's standpoint, a direct replacement for that part isn't available. Due to the hazards of mercury, manufacturers quit putting mercury flame switches in their equipment for a dozen or so years now. However, most manufacturers (including Southbend) offer a retrofit kit to replace it.
When I say MOST technicians, that means that those technicians will ONLY offer the original equipment manufacturer's (OEM's) replacement parts for that equipment. They'll do so because, if they install a replacement part that are "re-manufactured" or otherwise something else that's NOT specified as an OEM replacement - then their repair is therefore deemed a modification. By MODIFYING an appliance with a part not supplied or recognized by the manufacturer as a replacement, that technician becomes liable for any consequences stemmed from that component's failure.
So as a rule, a service company or parts distributor will NOT sell or install aftermarket/re-manufactured SAFETY components - such as that flame safety switch. They'll only install what's specified by the manufacturer of the appliance.
My advice is to pursue a repair using the OEM replacement kit. From a quick internet search, I believe that would be Southbend part number is 4440635.
